Mothership: la mia band!

Copertina CD - Mothership - Band Of Gold

In 1998 I fulfilled a dream that I’d had since I was a kid: to have my own band and record an album.
I met the singer, Brendan Markham, while I was shooting a commercial. I was looking for a voice for a song that I had just written for the ad.
Brendan was perfect… and that same day I decided we should form a band together.
A few months later, I had written the music and he had written the lyrics.
Henry Padovani, who at that time was Zucchero’s manager, together with the attorney Costa found us a recording contract with… SONY!

Some of my musician friends play on the album:
Manù Katche on drums (he also played with, among others, Tori Amos, Sting, Dire Straits, Pink Floyd, King Crimson, Joe Satriani, and Joni Mitchell)

Pino Palladino on bass (he also played with, among others, the Who, Paul Young, David Gilmour, Tears for Fears, David Knopfler, Elton John, Eric Clapton, and Simon and Garfunkel)

Dominic Miller on guitar (Bryan Adams, The Chieftains, Tina Turner, Rod Stewart, The Pretenders, Paul Young, Level 42, Steve Winwood, Sheryl Crow, Peter Gabriel, Phil Collins, and Sting).

The album was arranged by Michele Canova (Tiziano Ferro and Jovanotti).

I wrote one of the songs, “Wait for Me”, with Maurizio Solieri.

The band performed at the 1999 edition of Festivalbar and (without me) toured with Sting.

Now Mothership no longer exists… I don’t know what Brendan is up to… As Luca Carboni says: “even bands break up”…
